Cardiff city council has been forced to slash more than £3 million from its budget next year, Geoff Mungham, chair of the city's finance committee said today.

'Once again we face a punishing financial year where we will be forced to deliver council services with even less money. We had braced ourselves for yet another round of swingeing cuts and the Secretary of State for Wales has lived up to our expectations.'

The council says it is particularly concerned about the impact the budget cuts will have on the local economy as it is not only a major employer but is also a major purchaser of local goods and services.
