A family has been evicted from their Cardiff home after racially abusing an Asian policeman who lives next door, reports The Guardian (p15).

PC Altaf Hussain suffered abuse and threats from Henry Williams and his family for three years. The officer was threatened with a baseball bat and called a 'black pig' while his two young children were called racist names.

Williams and his son Gavin were convicted of aggravated harassment last September. Cardiff CC housing officers tried to mediate after the court case but the abuse continued.

A council official, Robert Webb, said the Williams family 'had so many warnings that we had no alternative but to take steps to evict them. It is the first time we have ever evicted anyone for racial harassment but we won't hesitate to do it again if the need arises.'
