A man temporarily in charge of a Durham CC home for the mentally handicapped stole from residents, Teesside Crown Court heard, the Northern Echo reported on Saturday (p5).

George Petrie made withdrawals from the savings accounts of those in his care and assigned them to items the residents did not have to pay for, or simply handed over less cash than he had withdrawn.

Mr Petrie admitted eight specimen offences of theft. Sentence has been adjourned until Monday.
