Private nursing homes in the Borders are to ask the Scottish Office to intervene to stop a council freeze on placements, reports The Scotsman (p4).

Borders Council has stopped placing people in private nursing homes to avoid a huge budget overspend.

Colin Barron, chairman of the Scottish Association of Care Home Owners, claims some Borders establishments could face ruin as occupancy levels dip to 50% by next March.
