Newly appointed directors of children's services will now be eligible for membership of both the Association of Directors of Social Services and the Confederation of Education Services Managers.

ConfEd and the ADSS have forged new links in response to the Children Act, but have no plans to merge.

A series of joint policy initiatives is planned to boost the profile of children's services.

But in a joint statement, ADSS president Tony Hunter and Association of Directors of Children's Services chairman David Hawker stressed the link-up was not a merger.

ADECS, formerly the Association of Chief Education Officers, forms part of ConfEd.
