David McNulty has been appointed chief executive of Trafford MBC. He is currently executive director at Walsall MBC. Before this he was deputy director of education at Blackburn with Darwen BC.

Philip Thomas (above) has been appointed interim chief executive at Tunbridge Wells BC. His most recent permanent appointment was as chief executive of Tandridge DC, a post he held for 12 years until his retirement in December 2003. He has since worked extensively with the Audit Commission. Mr Thomas takes over from Rodney Stone, who retired in February after 20 years as chief executive.

Paul Godier, chief executive of Bournemouth BC, is leaving the council in October. He joined in August 2003.

Gary Pickering has been appointed deputy chief executive of Trafford MBC. He was previously a strategic director at the council.

Ann Wain has been appointed executive director, with responsibility for support services, service partnerships and commercial activities, at Colchester BC. She was previously head of corporate policy and communications and interim executive director at Colchester. Before this, she was assistant chief executive at Islington LBC.

Richard Ellis has been appointed executive director, with responsibility for customer and frontline operations, at Colchester BC. He previously ran his own management consultancy.

Shahzad Choudhry has been appointed equalities and diversity officer at Stevenage BC. He was previously equalities and diversity officer at Luton BC. Before this, he worked on equality issues at Islington LBC.


Jim Crook has been appointed director of children's services at Cheshire CC. He is currently director of community services at City of York Council. Before this, he was the assistant director for children's services at the council. He has also worked at Buckinghamshire CC as assistant divisional director and latterly head of care management for children, adults and older people. He starts work in July.

Jo Davidson has been appointed director of children's services at Gloucestershire CC. She is currently executive director for education at Bournemouth BC.

Roy Jobson has been appointed director of children and families at Edinburgh City Council. He was previously director of education at the council.

Mick Brookes has been appointed general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers. He is currently headteacher of Sherwood Junior School in Nottinghamshire. He takes over from David Hart and starts work on 1 September.


Harold Bodmer has been appointed director of adult social services at Norfolk CC. He was previously assistant director for community care services at the council. Before this, he was operations manager for older people's services at Cambridge City Council.

Gwen Ovshinsky has been appointed director of adult social services at Islington LBC. She previously held a joint post for Islington's social services and Islington primary care trust as director of strategy and commissioning. Before this, she was assistant director of community care and commissioning at Islington LBC.

Terry Butler, (left) director of social services at Hampshire CC, is standing down after 18 years. Mr Butler is the longest-serving social services director in England. He was previously deputy director of social services at East Sussex CC.


John Robinson has been appointed group director, local environmental services, at Gateshead Council. He was previously director, development and enterprise, at the council. Mr Robinson has worked for Gateshead since 1983 when he was appointed deputy chief environmental health officer, following a career in environmental health at South Tyneside MBC.


Jackie Feeney has been appointed head of communications at the Local Government Ombudsmen service. She was previously communications manager at Havering LBC.


Jonathan Morgan has been appointed housing manager for the Llanelli area, at Carmarthenshire CC. He was previously senior principal officer, service strategy and commissioning, in the council's social services and housing department.


The Audit Commission has appointed Michael Scott as director of the central region of England. He was previously interim director for the NHS Modernisation Agency. Mr Scott takes over from Judy Rolston, who left the commission last September.


Kevin Curran, general secretary of the GMB union, is standing down.
