If you won the lottery what would you do?

I have - but£10 does not go far these days, although it bought everybody an ice cream.

If local government had a theme tune what would it be?

I'm still standing by Elton John.

What celebrity would you most like to meet and why?

Julie Walters, Sandwell born and bred. She would be a great laugh.

What gives you a thrill at work?

When we have a problem and a whole range of people from different areas of the council sit down and put their absolutely best efforts into trying to sort it out, as a team. We've moved mountains this way.

If the office was on fire what three things would you take with you?

My diary, a photograph of Martin Johnson holding the Rugby World Cup that gives me inspiration when I am struggling, and my secretary Carol.

Describe your worst ever day at work

When I was a Saturday girl, my first and last day in a department store café - I couldn't believe how hard the work was, how hot the kitchen was and how ungrateful the customers were.

What have you learned recently that would be useful to others?

Teenage kids can be fun. Yes they're hormonal - but at least you know who the Arctic Monkeys are, and once they have passed their driving test they can give you lifts instead of the other way round.

Describe your best ever day at work?

Undoubtedly the day we signed a deal to build five new primary schools - it really was a whole council effort.

What would be your epitaph?

She did her best and had fun along the way.
