What advice would you give to someone starting out in local government?

I'll adapt a line from Harry Potter - in local government you will regularly be faced with choices between what's easy and what's right. The people who make a difference choose the latter.

What would your department mascot be?

I work in social care, so it could be Marge Simpson: always hard working, reliable and helpful, but only occasionally appreciated by those who need her.

Name a tune, to sum up your local government experience?

Alive and Kicking by Simple Minds.

What is the worst mistake you have made and what did you learn from it?

Upsetting the director on my first day. I did have the courage to own up, however. The experience has stayed with me ever since, and I do always try to be straight with people.

What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?

Being present at the birth of my kids.

What will your next 'me' purchase be?

Digital LCD television -well it is World Cup year!

Which three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

We did a similar exercise at a team event and two words spring to mind: 'keeps going'. Someone also mentioned 'small bottom', but didn't have the courage to own up.

What maxim do you use to see you through the tough times?

I try to look forward to the next good times.

Who would you like to give an ASBO to?

The Brazil football team, so they can't go to the World Cup - it might give us a chance of glory.
