Cars are to be banned from Chester city centre, and the city and county councils are promising to work together to create a fully integrated public transport system, reported The Daily Post (p10).
Chester's leader John Price said the council had given its support to the scheme after hosting the European conference of environment ministers in April.
'We support the objectives totally but really this is a long-term view. It may come to banning petrol driven vehicles but that can only happen when there are economic suitable arrangements to petrol driven cars,' he said.
Chestire CC chairman Derek Bateman said: 'We are looking at getting all public transport vehicles to move to natural gas or liquid pertol driven. The councils are working together to produc an integrated transport policy that will challenge congestion.'
