The Standards Board for England has contacted local authority monitoring officers seeking applications for secondments to help speed up its throughput of cases. They will be involved with the processing of allegations when they are first received. The board is also looking to recruit a special team to strengthen its investigations function, to be employed for six months in the first instance.

David Prince, chief executive of The Standards Board for England, says:

'This is one of a number of measures we are introducing to speed up our throughput of cases. Others will be announced over the coming weeks. It is important that we focus our resources where they are most effective. We already have a great deal of local government experience within our investigations team. Reaching out to local government and seconding the people who have local experience of working with members and the Code can only strengthen that.'
