An Ashford BC councillor has been sacked from her job at Sainsbury's and cautioned by the police for stealing loyalty-card points. The Daily Mail (p33) reports that before serving the next customer, Melanie Beavis-Schiller (a cashier and shelf-stacker) would swipe her own card through the electronic reader to add their points to her own total.

Cllr Beavis-Schiller has no plans to resign from the council, where she is vice-chair of the recreation and amenities committee. Ashford leader Mike Hayes is quoted: 'Melanie has always been a hard-working councillor. The issue has no effect on the council and I hope the people in her ward will be understanding.'
