A former mayor of Aberystwyth, Hywel Jones, has been suspended from Ceredigion CC after allegations that he threatened council staff.

The Daily Post (6 Nov, p7) reported that Mr Jones was accused of berating and intimidating staff at the authority and now faces a three-month suspension from council committees.

In a statement following a special meeting of the council, Owen Watkin, chief executive, said: 'Over a period, Coun Jones has berated and intimidated staff, accusing them of negligence and incompetance. There have been instances of officers breaking down under the pressure put on them by Coun Jones.'

Mr Jones said he did not want to respond to the council resolution but he added: 'I will be consulting my solicitor and other people, and no doubt I will make a statement in due course.'
