Prince Charles said yesterday that the New Towns of the post-war period, such as Stevenage and Bracknell, were a model for future developments, The Daily Telegraph reports (p6).

'They offered an alternative to urban sprawl; they were a positive response to our modern obsession with the car; and they sought a social and functional mix which they largely achieved,' he told a conference marking the 50th anniversary of the British New Town movement.
