Cheltenham BC is to spend£15,000 on a market research exercise which will ask council taxpayers what their money shoud be spent on, reports The Birmingham Post (p5).

Tory members of the Liberal Democrat-run authority say public money should not be wasted on public consultation when the council needs every penny for expensive projects.

But Lib Dem councillor Andrew McKinlay said the cost of the market research was a drop in the ocean compared to the£1.5m cuts which may have to be made.
