Cherie Booth QC, wife of Tony Blair, is defending Berkshire CC against charges of racism brought by a head of year at Slough and Eton Secondary Modern, reports The Daily Telegraph (p6).

Kanagarajah Vigneswaren, who is Sri Lankan, was appointed head of Lea First School in Slough, where 90% of the pupils are Asian, by the governors but the education authority refused to confirm the appointment.

He is being represented at the industrial tribunal by Rudy Narayan a disbarred barrister who rose to prominence for remarks he made at the time of the Brixton disturbances in December, reports the paper.

Berkshire claim they blocked his appointment because he had not worked in primary education for 20 years.
