Tony Blair's wife Cherie Booth QC proclaimed the benefits of Tory rule in Brent LBC this week, as she defended the council against unfair dismissal claims by 55 former finance staff.
The staff, who are all black or Asian, claim they lost their jobs on the grounds of race or sex.
Soon after the Tories seized control of Brent in 1991 they embarked on a radical restructuring of the benefits service, which was in a shambles, Ms Booth said.
'Within two years, far from being ashamed of its revenues and benefits service, Brent had achieved a Charter Mark for excellence,' she told the North London Industrial Tribunal.
'The transformation was only achieved after a root and branch reform carried through with a determination to ensure Brent would never again find itself in the shameful position it had been.'
