Barrister Cherie Booth BC is to advise the Association of Teachers and Lecturers on a legal challenge to a government ban on early retirement.

The move comes after education secretary Gillian Shephard told schools and colleges last month that after March 31 the cost of early retirement of teachers would no longer be borne by the Teachers' Superannuation Scheme, reports the Guardian (p5).
