The Daily Mail (p4) reports that builder Jonathan Ede faces a£10,000 bill after planners from Cherwell DC measured one of the walls of an£80,000 office block he had built. They found it was too tall by four-fifths of an inch. Councillors have decided that he will have to raise the roof of the two-storey development to remove a line of bricks.

The council inspected the wall after a nearby resident complained about the wall. Ede called the enforcement order served on him by the council's planning committee 'absolutely crazy'. He plans an appeal but faces a year-long wait before the decision can be reviewed. Cllr Maureen Hastings, who proposed the enforcement order motion, said: 'The committee backed the motion by 8-3, so that says it all.'
