Cheshire CC said that the driver of a double-decker bus which crashed into a low bridge injuring 50 schoolchildren had ignored a no right turn sign.

The Times (July 20, p5) reported that highway experts from the council said that the driver had taken a route restricted to single-decker buses.

County engineer Peter Cocker told the paper: 'We have very strict, very clear and very well-known rules about who can and who can't use the busway.' He added that each section of the busway was clearly marked to draw attention to the low bridges.
