Cheshire CC education officer Joan Feenan welcomed the special educational need tribunal's upholding of a council recommendation that an autistic schoolgirl should attend a local school, rather than an American institution.

Ms Feenan said: 'It has been a long and sometimes difficult haul but the tribunal's decision is a complete vindication of our views.

'Hopefully we can now achieve what we have always wanted - the best possible education for Hannah.

Commenting on the cost of holding a place for Hannah at a local school, Ms Feenan said: 'Whilst any money not spent directly in providing education in schools is to be regretted, we feel that this expenditure has helped to achieve the best for Hannah. That consideration has always been paramount.'
