The appointments of the chief executive of the employment tribunals service and external members of the Steering Board have been announced by John Taylor, DTI Minister with responsibility for industrial tribunals.

Ian Jones has been appointed as chief executive and moves from his post as director of the DTI's Post Office, retailing and textiles directorate. He will be responsible for the running of the employment tribunals service, which becomes an executive agency of the DTI on 1 April 1997.

The new agency will bring together the administrative support for the industrial tribunals and the employment appeal tribunal, enhancing the quality of support to the judiciary and improving standards of service to the public.
