The chief executive of the new City of Glasgow Council will be John Anderson, Strathclyde RC's current depute chief executive.

The appointment was made today following interviews with the five shortlisted candidates - Mr Anderson, Tom Monaghan, Douglas Sinclair, David Comley and John Markland. Mr Anderson was the unanimous choice of the interview panel.

Councillor Robert Gould, leader of the new council, said: 'We feel we have made a first class appointment. Mr Anderson will now proceed to organise administratively the new City of Glasgow Council.'
