Chief planner role for Quartermain

  • Comment
Steve Quartermain, Hambleton DC’s executive director of planning and president of the Planning Officers Society, has been appointed the government’s new chief planner.

Communities secretary Hazel Blears appointed Mr Quartermain with a mandate to ensure the planning system supports the delivery of housing growth, counters climate change and promotes sustainable economic development.

Mr Quartermain will also be responsible for encouraging new graduates into planning careers. He replaces Paul Hudson, who has become Thames Gateway’s head of delivery.

Planning minister Caroline Flint said: “Steve’s appointment will be key to ensuring we work well with councils and local planners.”
