About 2000 North Yorkshire children will be involved in a joint police and council effort to teach children about safety and reacting in an emergency, the Northern Echo reports (27 September, p5)

The Hambleton DC and North Yorkshire Police are running thier annual Crucial Crew campaign involving ten and 11 year-olds from 85 schools from across Hambleton and Richmondshire.

The pupils will use a specially staffed BT line to practise dialing 999 in emergency situations and will be taught the dangers around farms, trucks and gardens.
