Luton BC is putting up street lights to celebrate several faith festivals,

from November to January, but this does not mean Christmas has been banned

in the town, BBC Radio Four's Today programme heard this morning.

Council leader Bill McKenzie said a series of events would be celebrated,

starting with the Hindu festival Diwali later this month. 'But there's no

suggestion these lights can't be referred to as Christmas lights', he said.

'It's very much Christmas as usual in Luton'.
