The definitive section by section guide to the new housing act has been published by housing's professional body, CIH, and local authority associations.

Michael Irvine, director of housing with Southwark LBC and former under-secretary for housing at the AMA has written the comprehensive Guide to the Housing Act 1996 for the AMA, ADC and CIH.

The guide, which has more than 500 advance sales, provides overviews of each part of the new act, highlighting all changes from existing legislation as well as providing cross references.

Comprehensive sections on the Housing Corporation's new powers to register local housing companies, houses in multiple occupation, introductory tenancies, repossessions, allocations and homelessness are included

CIH director of policy John Perry said: 'New acts of parliament often hide behind obscure language. This guide explains the Act's many changes to housing legislation and clarifies their impact.

'It will help practitioners in housing associations and local authorities, members of tenant organisations and many others.'
