Local government minister Nick Raynsford and Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy will be among the speakers at next week's CIPFA conference in Brighton.

This year's theme is the future of public services, and the conference will tackle issues around decentralisation, public service reform, pay and trust in the political system.

CIPFA chief executive Steve Freer said: 'This is a critically important time to be debating the next stages of public services reform, with a general election perhaps only 12 months away.'

Other speakers include Local Government Association vice-chair Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart (Con) and Audit Commission chair James Strachan.

The conference runs from 15-17 June.
