Cipfa has launched a new quality forum which will work with local authorities to set up and monitor quality initiatives within local authority finance departments.

It will allow the sharing of information between finance departments on best practice and current initiatives and will act as a catalyst for generating new ideas.

Authorities that join the forum will receive advice on how to measure their performance and the steps which can be taken to make improvements.

The forum will also run a range of workshops, an annual conference and give other support.

The forum will be chaired by Steve Freer, treasurer of Warwickshire CC, whose finance department recently won a Cipfa award for its innovative quality improvement work.

He said: 'Taking quality for granted is no longer an option. Increasingly organisations need to develop explicit arrangements to ensure not only that quality is up to scratch, but that continuous improvements are actually taking place.'
