A consultant has been awarded a contract to undertake an interim evaluation of the City Challenge programme, DoE minister Tony Baldry announced (WA, 12 January, col 200).The successful bidder is the European Institute of Urban Affairs at Liverpool, John Moores University. It is led by Professor Michael Parkinson.

A table showing the amount spent in 1991-92 on major discretionary awards per head of the adult population was set out for each local education authority by junior education minister Tim Boswell (col 204). Information is given for full value awards, made at 50%-100% of the mandatory rate. In separate written answer Mr Boswell said the gross value of supplementary allowances made to students' dependants in that year was £29.2 million (col 206).
