The House of Commons last night voted to kill off Cleveland CC last night, leaving only a final vote in the house of Lords before four unitary councils can take over on Teesside, the Independent reports (p4).

The paper says that along with Avon and Humberside, Cleveland was newly formed in the 1974 shake up. All three are being abolished in this review, to be replaced with unitary councils.
