Cleveland CC has today agreed to begin proceedings to seek a judicial review over the way in which the Local Government Commission carried out its work in the area, and the recommendations it produced.

There was an all party support for the move which council leader, Paul Harford said had to be taken 'in order to protect the interests of the people of the area - both in terms of services and cost'.

The county will seek leave for Judicial review on a number of issues relating to the way in which the Commission considered evidence it received, its duties under both the Local Government Act 1992 and Guidance documents issued by the environment secretary.
