Castle Morpeth borough councillors have voted to dismiss their director of administration and personnel Michael Jones, the Journal reports (p3).

The vote followed complaints about his management style and claims staff were suffering from low morale. He was also at the centre of an allegation involving a breach of the data protection act, the Journal reports.

Members of council staff demonstrated before the meeting and handed a petition to councillors supporting another officer whose relationship with Mr Jones was reportedly strained.
