The Glasgow Herald (p17) looks at the problems facing older owner-occupiers in Scotland who are living in some of the worst conditions in Scotland.

It says lots of those now considered 'income poor but capital rich' are pensioners who own their own homes but are too poor to repair or upgrade them.

Ideas for equity release schemes, available from banks and building societies, were failing - partly because of the mentality of older home owners, who are reluctant to take out a loan secured on their property, but also due to legal obstacles.
