As receivers moved into private hospital HCI in Clydebank, district council leader John Gilleece said it was a smack in the face for the government, reports The Herald (p2).

Mr Gilleece said the news was disappointing for the town, which had hoped for hundreds of new jobs once the hospital reached full capacity. But it had been a gamble on the part of the government - one which had not paid off.

'This must be the biggest mistake the Scottish Office has ever made with taxpayers' money,' said Mr Gilleece. It put £30m into the hospital.
