The Co-operative Wholesale Society is rallying opposition to a hostile bid being prepared by Andrew Regan's Lanica Trust, reports the Financial Times (p1).

Co-op chairman Lennox Fyfe said yesterday the board was unanimous there were no CWS businesses for sale. A resolution to next month's AGM would, he hoped, put the seal on the policy of retaining the Co-op's mutual and co-operative nature.

The paper reports that Mr Regan's plans to launch a£1.2bn bid for the whole of the CWS were stopped by a high court injunction on Friday.
