The Financial Times (April 26, p4) ran a feature on the county council elections which are to be held on the same day as the general election on Thursday.

The paper contrasted the political co-operation in county councils with the oppositional style of the national parties.

The paper focusses on Cheshire CC which has been run by a joint Conservative-Liberal Democrat administration since 1993.

Simon Cussons, Conservative group leader on the authority, told the paper:

'Some of the worst local authorities are ones where a single party has a huge majority and the council just rubber stamps decisions.'
