The law on collective worship is unworkable, say official bodies responsible for religious education, and the government should change it. (Times Higher p1).

Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education (SACRE) are considering proposals for fewer acts of collective worship.

Various SACRE Councils say many schools are failing to hold daily assemblies because they do not have enough space to gather all pupils in one room. Others are unhappy about holding primarily Christian assemblies in multi-ethnic areas.

They are now lobbying the government to act.
