Comments have been invited on draft certificates of authorisation, issued today by HM Industrial Pollution Inspectorate, for the continued disposal of liquid radioactive waste from Hunterston B power station to the Firth of Clyde and for the disposal of combustible low level radioactive wastes to the premises of Rechem International Ltd. Southampton for high temperature incineration.

An existing authorisation permits the disposal of liquid wastes but authorised limits have now been reduced as part of the ongoing review of existing authorisations granted for nuclear installations within Scotland.

The new authorisation for combustible wastes covers organic liquid scintillant and contaminated absorbent materials which are unsuitable for other disposal routes.

Public copies of the certificates and explanatory note may be obtained from HM Industrial Pollution Inspectorate, 27 Perth Street, Edinburgh, EH3 5RB, to whom comments should be sent by November 29, 1995.
