Surrey CC and the 11 districts and borough councils making up local government in the county have been asked jointly to look at the creation of between 3 and 6 unitary councils by the Local Government Commission.

A statement from Surrey says that at a meeting with the Commission the councils were asked to consider the 3-6 range and underlined they would also look at options outside this range.

Surrey chairman, Cecilia Gerrard, said she hoped that districts will work together with the county to evaluate a range of specific options for local government in Surrey that have widespread support.
