Commons oral answer, DoE, 19 January 1994

Local governmenT minister David Curry said yesterday he 'will bet' the Commons Environment Committee will not find evidence of political rigging in its forthcoming report on the standard spending assessment system. In an oral Commons answer, Mr Curry said: 'It is perfectly legitimate to have a political argument about how much money is available for local authorities, but we shall not have a political argument about the mechanisms of distribution because we do our best to ensure that they are fair, dispassionate, objective and up to date. All the councils that have come to see me - 58 councils have been through our doors in the past few weeks - have accepted that' (col 877).

Commons written answer, Home Office, 18 January 1994

The numbers of people imprisoned for non payment of community charge in each month from April to October 1993 were given in a table by the Director General of the Prison Service. The total number during this period was 207 (col 482).
