The British Medical Association today called for a review of care in the community policy changes made last April, the Evening Standard reports.

The paper says that the call comes after a BMA survey found that care in the community is failing with few homes available for the mentally ill and hospital beds being 'blocked' by the elderly.

The survey showed that assessments made by social services were taking an average of three weeks from the time a patient came in, leading tot he beds being taken by old people when they were needed for others.
