Outsourcing of managed financial services in local government is set to double in size this year compared to last year, according to a report from ITnet.

In the first half of 1997 the size of the local government managed financial services market reached£56m, up 33% on last year. By the end of this year ITnet predicts the value of the market will have doubled to£95m, approaching the size of the IT outsourcing market in the sector, valued at£111m.

During the rest of 1997 ITnet expects five local authorities to renew their contracts and a further 12 to outsource for the first time. The company says councils are becoming more sophisticated in their use of outsourcing in general.
