Sports minister Kate Hoey has complained to Lambeth LBC following claims council officers tried to scare local residents into supporting the controversial Project Vauxhall redevelopment scheme.

In a letter to John Broomfield, Lambeth's executive housing director, Ms Hoey expresses concern that council officers had said failure to support Project Vauxhall would mean there would be no money for improvements to the Ethelred and China Walk estates.

Ms Hoey, Labour MP for Vauxhall, says: 'It is alleged that [the estates] would stay exactly as they are and even minor repairs, such as replacing broken lifts, would not be carried out.'

Lambeth was unavailable for comment.
