Hampshire county councillors are too scared to use their

computers at home in the wake of the release from jail of former

leader Freddie Emery-Wallis.

The Portsmouth News reported (Oct 30, p5) how police found 40

pornographic websites on Emery-Wallis's home

computer.

Emery-Wallis was released from prison at the weekend after a nine-month

sentence for indecently assaulting two boys.

The Southern Daily Echo reported (Oct 30, p3) that Hampshire CC's

standards committee has decided against probing Emery-Wallis use

of the computer.

New guidelines mean councillors will have to bring in their

computers every year to have them checked for misuse.

Labour group leader Bill Wheeler said some councillors were

thinking about returning the equipment because of fears that

other family members may misuse the computers. 'I would not want

the responsibility because of what young people are like. They do

look at things they should not.'
