Zurich Municipal have confirmed a two year agreement to provide support to the Association of Local Authority Risk Managers (ALARM), announced yesterday at the first day of the ALARM 1998 conference.

In addition to providing on-going advice and technical support to local authority risk managers, Zurich Municipal is assisting ALARM with a number of major initiatives.

Over the next year Zurich Municipal will assist ALARM in developing and maintaining a web site. This will provide all ALARM members with immediate access to information on the latest developments within local authority risk management.

Zurich Municipal have also agreed, on the request of ALARM, to attend and provide appropriate input into the inaugural meeting of the Public Risk Managers of Europe (PRIMEUR) later this year.

Over the next two years relevant areas for joint working, where Zurich Municipal can use their expertise and insight into key issues and developments, will be identified. Issues which have been looked at over the last year include a major survey of pay and remuneration, and training.

Eddie White, assistant general manager, Zurich Municipal said:

'We are delighted to continue our support to ALARM over the next two years. Local authority risk managers and insurance officers have a major role to play in reducing risks and improving the quality of services, however this role is still not properly recognised within all authorities.

'We will continue to work with ALARM to raise awareness of the significant contribution risk management can make.'
