Cornwall CC is being taken to court by the mother of a schoolgirl murdered on a school trip to France.

Nearly two years after her daughter Caroline's death, Sue Dickinson is instigating civil proceedings against the education authority alleging negligence and breach of duty.

Her daughter was raped and murdered in a youth hostel in Brittany in July 1996. She was attacked in a dormitory she was sharing with four other girls. The killer has not been found.

Cornwall CC has expressed regret that the action is being taken and said it did not believe it was liable.

Mrs Dickinson's solicitor, Ian Langsford, said: 'Questions have been asked of Cornwall CC on Mrs Dickinson's behalf, but the answers have not been forthcoming.'

Cornwall said it has provided answers via the insurer and the insurer would be liaising with her solicitors regarding disclosure.
