North Cornwall residents are raising a protest petition after learning that compensation for planning errors is to be paid out of public funds, the Western Morning News reports (p7).

The demand is that the £40,000 compensation should be paid by North Cornwall district councillors who ignored professional advice over the applications.

Independent councillor Brenda Patrons told the paper: 'People are writing to the chief executive saying the council should pay up. Unless it actually hurts their pocket they are not going to behave.'

According to the paper, locals are being quick to sign the petition at a local shop.
