COSLA has submitted nominations for the Committee of the Regions to the Secretary of State for Scotland, with a wider spread of five places now allocated to Scottish local government compared to the previous three.

The nominations are Charles Gray (Strathclyde) for the West of Scotland Region; Rosemary McKenna (Cumbernauld and Kilsyth) for the West of Scotland District; Keith Geddes (Lothian) for the East of Scotland Region: Jean McCormack (Perth and Kinross) for the East of Scotland District and Andrew Tulley (Ettrick and Lauderdale) for Borders, Dumfries and Galloway , Highland and Islands.

Also proposed are Conservative councillor Jean McCormack of Perth and Kinross DC and Labour councillor, Robert Gould of Strathclyde RC.

COSLA president Charles Gray said he was sure those disappointed would 'support those appointed in the important task which they will have of representing local government interests in the European Community.' Ends
