Cosla president Pat Watters has praised the contribution made

by Henry McLeish in his role as first minister and commended his dignified

resignation from the post.

Cllr Watters said: 'Mr McLeish has got to be commended for putting

the interests of the Scottish parliament and the Scottish people ahead of

his own political career.

'He was a good friend of local government who, having been involved at the

highest level, had an excellent understanding of its workings.

'Cosla will continue to work with the Scottish executive and Mr McLeish's

successor as first minister to ensure that local government interests are to

the fore.'
