COSLA has reinforced its message to the government that more needed to be done to ensure a co-ordinated approach in the fight against drug misuse in Scotland.

Responding to the Scottish Office announcement, setting up a new

School Drugs Safety Team, David Henderson, head of policy development, said: 'COSLA announced last week that it was establishing a new Scottish Local Government Drugs Forum to co-ordinate action across all local government services, including education.

'We also called on the government to refocus and strengthen the

existing arrangements to give a much stronger role to the Scottish

Advisory Committee on Drugs Misuse (SACDM).

'It will be important to ensure that the work of the new School Drugs

Safety Team fits fully into that framework.'
